About the course This is a comprehensive training programme leading to a recognised qualification in HPLC. On successful completion of the course you will receive a Certificate in High Performance Liquid Chromatography an award accredited by Education Development International ( EDI), a leading international education company. The course offers great flexibility in how and when you learn and covers the basics through to troubleshooting and method development. It has been developed to allow a progressive programme of learning with knowledge being reinforced through associated assignments, resulting in a more thorough understanding of the principles of the technique and a greater retention of this knowledge.

Who are EDI and what is an EDI endorsed qualification? EDI is one of the UK's leading awarding bodies accredited by the British government. The Cretificate in High Performance Liquid Chromatography is an EDI endorsed qualification, accredited (approved, quality assured and certificated) by EDI.

Why distance learning? Distance learning provides an alternative approach to HPLC training. It is not restrictive on when you learn; you can begin the course as soon as you wish, and study at a pace best suited to you, neither is it restrictive on location; the course can be studied at your home, place of work or wherever you wish. The distance learning approach also allows candidates to take the course outside of the UK.

How does the course operate? The training course is divided into sections of learning, each consisting of a set of colourful course notes and a series of associated assignments. The candidate studies one section at a time, with completed assignments being sent to their tutor before progressing onto the next section. Each candidate has an experienced tutor assigned to them throughout the duration of the course, who guides them through their programme of learning, assessing completed assignments and helping with any problems. Please note that although many of the assignments are based on laboratory situations, they are all written assignments, requiring no laboratory equipment, and can be completed outside of the laboratory environment. As soon as the required assessment criteria have been met candidates will receive their Certificate in High Performance Liquid Chromatography.

Who will benefit? This course is ideally suited to those new to HPLC, as well as those who have been using the technique for some time. In addition to providing an excellent training programme for those just starting with HPLC it will also expand the knowledge of those with more experience, along with the additional benefit of an associated qualification that will be recognised by current and future employers. For laboratory managers interested in staff development the course is an ideal way of demonstrating competence in HPLC.

Is previous HPLC experience required? No previous experience of HPLC is required to enrol. However, to successfully complete the course, candidates will need to demonstrate how some of the learning objectives covered are utilised in real laboratory situations. The last assignment consists of a small report which demonstrates where some of the learning objectives have been applied to real laboratory situations. This aims to demonstrate that the candidate has some practical experience of HPLC, but again does not require the candidate to carry out any specific laboratory based activities. For this reason candidates should be working in a laboratory environment where they are required to use HPLC.
